An uncontrollable truck crushed five people sleeping on the footpath near Shastri Park metro station at 4.30 am on Monday. Three people died on the spot, while the condition of two remains critical. The injured have been admitted to GTB Hospital. After the incident, the driver fled leaving the truck on the spot.
The police officer said that the deceased have not been identified yet. The injured have been identified as Mustak (35), a resident of Shastri Park slum, and Kamlesh (36), a resident of Gandhinagar. The police have seized the truck and are trying to contact the owner through its documents.
It is suspected that the accident happened due to the driver dozing off. Police is investigating the nearby CCTV cameras to gather information about the cause of the accident. Police has registered a case of death due to negligent driving. Police is identifying the deceased by making inquiries in the surrounding area.
