Twitter Banned 25L Accounts: Elon Musk’s company Twitter has banned more than 2.5 million Indian accounts from March 26 to April 25 for promoting or posting inappropriate content on the platform. Child sexual abuse and non-consensual nude photos were being uploaded from these accounts which is against the rules of the company. Along with this, the company has also banned 2,249 accounts which were promoting Terzium on the platform.
Total number of accounts banned
Releasing the Monthly User Safety Report under the new IT Rule 2021, the company said that it has banned a total of 25,53,881 Indian accounts. The company had received a total of 158 complaints between March 25 and April 26, in which the company initially banned 4 accounts. However, after a deep review, the company reinstated 3 of these accounts. All other accounts have been banned by the company. Twitter said in its report that most of the complaints received from India were related to abuse/harassment (83), sensitive adult content (41), hateful conduct (19) and defamation (12).
Whatsapp also released monthly safety report
While releasing the User Safety Report, Meta also said that the company has banned 74 lakh Indian accounts between April 1 and April 30. Out of the total banned accounts, the company itself has banned 24 lakh accounts without any complaint. All these accounts were not following the rules and were involved in some or the other wrongdoings.
Twitter’s head of trust and safety Ella Irwin resigns
Ella Irwin, posted as Trust and Safety Head in Musk’s company, has resigned from her post. She looked after the work related to content moderation on the platform. Ella Irwin joined Twitter in June 2022 and was given the responsibility of Head of Trust and Safety in November.
