Police arrested smugglers in Agra, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Opium was being smuggled from Barabanki to Agra and Mathura via Lucknow Expressway. On Sunday, police arrested two members of the Mathura gang along with 86 kg poppy husk and 1.50 kg opium. The value of the goods recovered from them is estimated to be around Rs 80 lakh.

The Anti Narcotics Task Force had received information about illegal drug smuggling in car number UP 85 L-7687. The police stopped the car while crossing the Lucknow Expressway toll plaza in Fatehabad area. During the search, 86 kg poppy husk and 1.50 kg opium were recovered.

Mathura Lajpat Nagar resident Dharmendra and Jitendra have been arrested. Both are real brothers. Both run a gang of illegal drug smuggling. During interrogation, both told the police that they make profit by selling opium in the dhabas and nearby hotels near Mathura Refinery. They work by forming a syndicate.

Half a dozen cases are already registered

A case has been registered against both of them under the NDPS Act in Fatehabad police station. Police said that the arrested accused Jitendra alias Jeetu already has 5 cases registered against him in Mathura police station highway. These include Arms Act, NDPS and other cases.
