New Delhi. Janhvi Kapoor has made her debut with a spy thriller film. With the title of the film being ‘Uljh’, fans would be hoping that this film will be able to confuse people by adding a tadka of pure spy thriller. But the truth is that the film itself got as entangled as its name. This film could not confuse people as much as Janhvi Kapoor and Gulshan Devaiah’s film Jalebi did.
The film Uljh, directed by National Award winner Sudhanshu Saria, falls in the category of patriotic films. But this film plays a reverse card on patriotism. If you are also planning to watch the film, then definitely read this review once.
Spy thrillers have their own twist. The film ‘Uljh’ revolves around Suhana Bhatia (Janhvi Kapoor), a young government official at the Indian Embassy in the United Kingdom. Coming from an aristocratic family, Suhana has the cloud of nepotism weighing on her head while she tries to wrap her mind around her new position in the UK. Meanwhile, she meets a mysterious man at a party and he is Nakul Sharma (Gulshan Devaiah). She gets so impressed with Nakul in the very first meeting that she gets intimate with him. However, Nakul’s real identity is something else.
He starts blackmailing Suhana on the basis of her private video and gets confidential information and Suhana gets badly entangled in this trap. Now how does Suhana get out of this trap? Who has hatched this conspiracy to trap her? What is their motive? It would be better to know this only after watching the film.
By the time the second half of the film starts, the story starts boring people. The screenplay is so loose that you wait for it to end and then you will understand why it is named ‘Uljh’.
Talking about acting, the year 2024 is very important for Janhvi Kapoor. Her acting in the film ‘Mr. and Mrs. Mahi’ was praised. After this film, there was scope for her work to improve in ‘Uljh’ as well. But due to her weak character, she was not able to attract the audience. She will have to work harder to establish herself. Gulshan Devaiah has done good acting in the film. He was successful in doing everything from romance to villainy. Roshan Mathew, Miang Chang, Adil Hussain and other actors have tried to bring life to their characters.
The technical aspects of the film such as cinematography, background score, costumes are strong. In terms of music, the song ‘Shaukan’ has become a hit on social media. There are some good twists and turns in the story but the way director Sudhanshu Saria has flouted the security and protocol at VVIP places like embassy and high commission, this story loses its credibility.
