The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
Kalubhai Chanabhai Rathod of BJP defeated Poonjabhai Bhimabhai Vansh of INC by 43,526 votes in Una assembly seat in Gir Somnath district. BJP candidate got 95,860 votes while Congress got 52,334 votes here. You were at number three. Its candidate Sejalben Mansukhbhai Khunt got 12,922 votes, which was 7.61 percent of the total votes. The deposits of eight including the AAP candidate were forfeited. NOTA got 3,092 votes here.
Congress got victory in 2017
The Congress had won the Una seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, Congress had made Poonjabhai Bhimabhai Vansh its candidate from this seat. Vansh defeated BJP’s Haribhai Solanki by 4928 votes. A total of eight candidates were in the fray here. Apart from these two, the deposits of the remaining six candidates were forfeited.
Poonjabhai has won from Una seat six times
Congress’s Poonjabhai Bhimabhai Vansh, who lost in the 2022 elections, had earlier lost to BJP’s Kalubhai Rathod in 2007 as well. On the other hand, before 2017, Poonjabhai had won from here on Congress ticket in 2012, 2002, 1998 and 1995 as well. And in 1990, Poonjabhai won on a Janata Dal ticket. Out of the total 14 elections held so far on Una seat, Congress has won 10 times from here. At the same time, BJP could win here only twice in 2012 and 2022. The voters of Una have made the Janata Dal (1990) and the Socialist Party (1975) win once each.
