Union Budget 2024: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the country’s general budget in Parliament on Tuesday (July 23). This is the first budget of Modi 3.0, which the people in power are calling brilliant and far-sighted. However, the opposition is constantly attacking the budget. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) termed the Union Budget presented in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday for the financial year 2024-25 as a ‘rattle’ budget and said that there is nothing in it for farmers, youth, women and employees.

AAP MPs Sanjay Singh and Malvinder Singh Kang held a press conference and criticized the budget, saying that AAP-ruled Delhi and Punjab have been deprived of their share in financial allocation. During this, Sanjay Singh alleged that this is a “Save the government, increase inflation” budget. He said that there is nothing for farmers, businessmen, employees, youth and women in this budget, while the government has provided relief to corporate houses by not increasing the tax paid by them.

Budget for Delhi fails to address important issues- Sanjay Singh

Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh targeted the Modi government’s budget. He said that the budget has failed to deal with important issues like guaranteeing minimum support price (MSP) to farmers, ending the ‘Agneepath’ military recruitment scheme, restoring the old pension system and giving tax exemption on essential commodities including petrol and diesel.

Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh said, ‘This is a ‘jilt’ budget in which the people of the country got nothing. AAP leader Sanjay Singh said that the national capital was not given any amount either as a share in central taxes or as financial assistance to the Delhi Municipal Corporation, while the city has paid Rs 2.32 lakh crore in the central pool.

There is nothing in the budget for Punjab- Malvinder Singh Kang

AAP Lok Sabha member from Anandpur Sahib in Punjab Malvinder Singh Kang said that there was no mention of Punjab even once in the nearly one-hour budget speech of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He said that Sitharaman mentioned Himachal and Uttarakhand in the context of floods and announced special packages for those states, but there is nothing (in the budget) for Punjab, even though there has been extensive crop and property damage due to floods there.

The budget failed to ensure the guarantee of MSP of crops- Kang

Malvinder Singh Kang said the subsidy on fertilizer for Punjab’s agriculture-based economy has been reduced from Rs 25,000 crore to Rs 16,000 crore. He said the budget failed to ensure a guaranteed minimum support price for their crops despite rising prices of fertilizers, pesticides, petrol and diesel and protests by farmers. Kang criticised the budget, calling it ‘anti-Punjab’ and also cited the state’s contribution to the country’s defence and food grain production.
