Bhagalpur. In Bihar, different rituals are performed at different places in marriage. There are many such traditions which are followed only in Bihar. One of the traditions here is regarding the brother-in-law and the younger daughter-in-law. The firstborn has a different importance in the sacred bond of marriage. The daughter-in-law cannot be bid farewell at the wedding without them. But there is also a ritual in it which will not stop you from laughing.
Let us tell you that veiling is a ritual in a wedding in Bihar, after which the girl bids farewell. Regarding this, Reena Kumari of Bhagalpur told that the brother-in-law has an important role in the veil ritual. The brother-in-law is touched only on the wedding day, after which the daughter-in-law becomes impure, after which the brother-in-law and the daughter-in-law have to eat cow dung and sand.
Here one avoids the brother-in-law, one has to eat cow dung and sand when he gets close to him.
Actually, let us tell you that even if something has to be given to the brother-in-law, he gives it from a distance. When you see this scene, you will not be able to stop your laughter. Even morning tea has to be served from a distance. Even the veil cannot be removed in front of them. At the same time, if by mistake they come close to the brother-in-law, then both the brother-in-law and the daughter-in-law have to eat cow dung and sand. Only after that both become pure. Let us tell you that if the brother-in-law does not give the veil, the daughter-in-law will not be able to come to her house. The brother-in-law puts the sheet on the daughter-in-law’s head and moves it back and forth five times, after which the veil is removed.
This happens for respect
It is said that the daughter-in-law veils the brother-in-law because it is an honour. But now in many places this curtain also seems to be ending. The present day’s daughter-in-law seems to be going beyond traditional things. Now people go to the front by calling their brother-in-law brother, but the old tradition still persists in the villages.
