This time neither any member of Azam Khan’s family nor the Nawab’s family is in the fray in the by-election to be held on Swar assembly seat of Rampur. The Nawab family has been dominating this seat for a long time. This seat had come in the lap of his Azam Khan’s family. But this time all the candidates who are in the fray are not related to these two families.

All the candidates are local. Local MLA is also an issue of this election. Barring a few, in all the elections that have been held on the Swar seat, the politics of the clans has dominated here. The Nawab family considers it as their traditional seat. Many members of the Nawab family have also been MLAs from this seat. Apart from this, the Nawab family has also made many of its supporters as MLAs.

After this the seat became dominated by Azam Khan’s family. Azam Khan’s son Abdullah Azam won elections in 2017 and 2022 from Swar seat. It is a different matter that both the times his legislature was lost.

In the 2022 assembly elections, there was a contest on this seat between Haider Ali Khan of the Nawab family and Abdullah Azam, son of Azam Khan, in which Abdullah Azam was victorious. Haider Ali Khan was a contender for Apna Dal (S) ticket in the by-election but the party did not repose confidence in him. In this way, this time neither any member of the Azam family nor the Nawab family is in the fray. Whoever wins the by-election will be local. The issue of this time’s by-election is also the local MLA.
