The closed cinema halls in Uttar Pradesh will be back in business again. CM Yogi has given instructions to prepare a subsidy scheme for the re-operation of closed cinema halls, construction of multiplexes in districts without multiplexes and construction of single screen cinema halls. The CM gave these instructions in a meeting with the officials of the State Tax Department on Thursday.

He said that cinema plays a major role in the main means of entertainment for the general public. With the changing technology in the new era, the old single screen cinemas in the state have either closed down or their financial condition is not good. The state government should bring an incentive scheme to revive such cinemas. This will also be useful from the point of view of investment and employment generation.

He said that the scheme should be such that it encourages the construction of commercial complexes and cinema halls with lesser capacity in place of closed or operational cinema halls and the reopening of closed cinema halls in the same condition. Concession should be given by adopting a practical approach in the condition of minimum number of seats fixed for cinema halls.

The Chief Minister said that there are no multiplexes in 39 districts of the state while there are 10 districts where there are no single screen or multiplex cinemas. Make such provisions in the new scheme that investors are encouraged to build multiplexes as well. Like investment promotion programmes, the government will give grants to these as well. In the districts where there are already multiplexes, if investors interested in setting up new multiplexes come there, there will be provision of grants for them as well. The Chief Minister directed the State Tax Department to prepare a plan soon by communicating with the investors of the concerned sector and other stakeholders.
