Expansion

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday spoke to Union Health Minister JP Nadda regarding the non-recognition of 13 new autonomous medical colleges of Uttar Pradesh. He told Nadda that there was no lack of preparation in these colleges, but the problem arose due to the sudden change in the standards of the National Medical Commission (NMC). The CM has requested Nadda to recognize the medical colleges only on the basis of the standards set in 2020.

Let us tell you, 13 new medical colleges have not been recognized by NMC. The government spokesperson said on Monday that preparations were made in these colleges as per the standards of NMC in 2020, while NMC is taking decisions based on the standards set for MBBS course in the year 2023. The spokesperson said that the government is committed to running these colleges. The spokesperson said that inspection of these colleges was requested on the basis of old standards only. Many other states had also requested NMC to postpone the standards of the year 2023. Because in the new standards, the standards of medical teachers and infrastructure are higher than the standards of the year 2020.

Efforts to fill positions

The spokesperson said that every effort was made to fill the posts of teachers in medical colleges. The government has given the right to appoint medical teachers on contract to a committee constituted under the chairmanship of the principal. Four committees have also been formed for the appointment of regular medical teachers. At the time of the notice of NMC on May 2, the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections was in force in the state. After the code of conduct ended, applications were again sought by issuing advertisements for the appointment of medical teachers. Currently, the selection process is going on.

these are the standards

According to the NMC standards of the year 2020, there should be 50 medical teachers in the college, whereas according to the standards of the year 2023, there should be 86 medical teachers. Due to the change in the standards, now 40 senior residents instead of 24 and 17 professors instead of six professors have become mandatory in the colleges.
