It was not clear on Saturday who will be the new Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh. According to sources in high positions in the government, the situation will be clear on Sunday. At the same time, the status of the letter sent to the center for giving extension to Durga Shankar Mishra is also not clear yet. Not only this, the status of ‘clearance’ from the vigilance department before giving extension is also not clear. It is believed that whatever decision has to be taken, it will be taken on Sunday only.
Durga Shankar Mishra is a 1984 batch IAS officer. Just before his retirement in December 2021, he was given an extension and made the Chief Secretary of the state. After this, in December 2022, he again got a one-year extension. When his term was ending in December 2023, he was given a six-month extension in view of the Lok Sabha elections. Durga Shankar’s term is ending on Sunday. That is why the market of discussions is hot. Some believe that Durga Shankar will get another extension, even if it is short. At the same time, some argue that the central government can give him a big responsibility. Therefore, UP can get a new Chief Secretary.
In case Durga Shankar does not get extension of service, the claims of many officers of 1987, 1988 and 1989 batch of UP cadre will increase. The first name in this is of Agriculture Production Commissioner and IIDC Manoj Kumar Singh. He is a 1988 batch IAS officer and currently has the responsibility of many important departments. He has played an important role in implementing many government schemes. In such a situation, in case of not getting extension of service, Manoj Kumar Singh is considered to be the strongest contender for this post. Apart from this, there is also talk of return of Arun Singhal, posted as Secretary in the Government of India, as Chief Secretary.
