After heavy protests by traders and intervention of political parties, the government has postponed the raids of the State Tax Department against GST evasion for a week. However, no written order has been issued for this. However, by giving verbal orders to the 264 team involved in the raid, instructions have been given to suspend the operation for the time being.

In order to stop this action, business organizations met officials and ministers and expressed objection and alleged that traders are being harassed in the name of investigation of tax evasion.

At the same time, the traders also warned that if the action of raids is not stopped, then the political parties will have to bear the brunt of it in the civic elections. The effect of this was that the campaign has been postponed only after a week on Monday.

208.15 crore theft caught in a week
The state tax department has detected total evasion of Rs 208.15 crore during the campaign in one week. Whereas in the raids conducted at more than 600 traders, goods worth more than Rs 11.87 crore and documents related to large scale tax evasion were seized. Apart from this, a fine of Rs 17.53 crore was collected from hundreds of traders in the campaign.

This issue was raised in BJP meeting
Sources say that the opposition of business organizations to stop the campaign against GST evasion had increased the concern of BJP leaders engaged in preparations for the civic elections. This issue was also raised in the meeting held on Sunday at the state headquarters of the BJP regarding preparations for the civic elections and it was said that if the campaign is not stopped then it may have to bear the loss in the civic elections. Sources also say that the leaders of the organization had talked to the Chief Minister in this regard. Only after this, instructions have been given to stop the campaign.
