The Uttar Pradesh government has claimed that financial assistance worth Rs 1447 crore was given to the victims of murder, rape and gang rape in the state in seven and a half years. This assistance is provided under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989) and Protection of Civil Rights (PCR) Act. Financial assistance is provided based on the seriousness of the crime, ensuring that victims and their families receive the support they need from the government. According to the rules of the Central Government, this assistance ranges from Rs 85,000 to Rs 8.25 lakh.

The state government provides necessary financial assistance to the victims on time.

Kumar Prashant, Director of Social Welfare Department, said that the objective of the state government is to provide timely necessary financial assistance to the victims and their families, so that they can be assisted during the judicial process. Under this initiative the government ensures that families get the necessary support based on vital points of screening and testing.

A committee is constituted under the chairmanship of District Magistrate at district level and SDM at Tehsil level.

SC-ST women victims of various crimes should get justice. For this, at the district level, a District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee works under the chairmanship of the District Magistrate, while at the Tehsil level, a sub-division level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee has been arranged under the chairmanship of the Sub-District Magistrate.

Assistance is determined based on the nature of the crime

In case of death due to murder or torture, the family gets financial assistance of Rs 8.25 lakh. In this, compensation is distributed in two phases. Fifty percent of the amount is provided immediately after the post-mortem and the remaining 50 percent after the chargesheet is formally submitted in the court.

In case of rape or gang rape (Section 375, Indian Penal Code), the victim is entitled to financial assistance of Rs 5.25 lakh. This assistance is provided in a phased manner during the legal process. Total 50 percent amount is given after medical examination and confirmation of medical report, 25 percent amount is given after the charge sheet is filed in the court and the last 25 percent amount is given after the trial in the lower court is over. Under Section 376D, the state government provides Rs 8.25 lakh to the victim of gang rape. In this, 50 percent amount is given after medical examination and verification of medical report. 25 percent amount is given after the charge sheet is filed in the court. The last 25 percent amount is given after the trial in the lower court is over.
