Officers and employees are playing a big game in collusion in land acquisition for highways. In fact, as soon as officers get wind of a road project, they are getting someone close to them to buy land in several villages. Among them, someone is a relative of an NHAI officer and someone is a member of the legal advisor’s family. Not only this, PWD and Revenue Department employees are also submitting absurd reports.
In Bareilly, several engineers and employees of PWD and NHAI have been suspended after a scam of more than Rs 80 crores came to light in land acquisition for Bareilly-Pilibhit-Sitapur highway and Bareilly ring road. According to NHAI sources, if a strict investigation is done, such irregularities will be found in Palia-Shahjahanpur-Hardoi-Lucknow highway as well.

Scam for huge compensation
Karmveer (name changed) had land in six villages of Palia-Shahjahanpur-Hardoi-Lucknow highway, Bareilly-Pilibhit-Sitaganj and Bareilly ring road namely Amaria, Kakrahi Outer, Nagara, Kushmah, Narayanpur Bikrampur and Umrasia. He has also taken compensation from NHAI. Sources reveal that his son is in the advocate panel of NHAI. It is not difficult for him to find out which highway is to be widened or where the highway is to be built.
Investigation handed over to State SIT
Kabir Das (name changed) took compensation for land in nine villages namely Sarkara, Shahi, Uganpur, Amaria, Bhuani, Sardarnagar, Kalyanpur, Chakratirth and Madhopur on Bareilly-Sitapur-Highway. The state government has handed over the investigation of the case to the State SIT.
How are such corruptions caught?
It is not difficult to catch such corruption from the revenue records. For this, one just has to find out when the person receiving compensation bought the land. Then his relatives and close ones will have to be found in the department.
