The important UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion (Amendment) Bill-2024 was passed in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. Along with this, the Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill- 2024 was also passed. Both the important bills were introduced in the House on Monday. Apart from this, other important bills were also passed.

The UP Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion (Amendment) Bill-2024 was passed in the Assembly on Tuesday. It was introduced on Monday. The UP government had earlier passed the Prohibition of Religious Conversion Bill 2021 in the Assembly. This bill has been amended and strengthened in terms of punishment and penalty. While the punishment for the already defined crimes has been doubled, new crimes have also been included. Under the new provisions, now there will be 3 to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 for converting religion and marrying by deception, fraud, allurement. Earlier there was a punishment of one to five years in jail and a fine of Rs 15,000. Now there is a provision of five to 14 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh for crime against minor, woman (SC-ST) and seven to 14 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh for illegal mass conversion.

This is the purpose of the bill

This amendment bill has been brought in view of the sensitivity and seriousness of the crime of religious conversion. This will prevent the organized conspiracy of foreign and anti-national forces. For this reason, provisions have been made for stringent bail conditions along with increasing the amount of punishment and fine. Along with this, minors, handicapped and mentally ill people will also be saved from becoming victims of this crime.

Paper leak: Life imprisonment and fine of Rs 1 crore

The Yogi government has taken another important step to conduct examinations in Uttar Pradesh in a transparent and fair manner. The Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill-2024 was passed in the Assembly on Tuesday to prevent unfair means and paper leaks in public examinations. Under the new law, the Yogi government will also crack down on the copy mafia. Now the strictest action can be taken against the members of the gang involved in cheating and paper leaks in the examination. These include a provision of punishment ranging from a minimum of two years to life imprisonment. A fine of up to one crore rupees has been included in this. It is noteworthy that the Yogi government has already taken strict steps on matters like paper leak and now the passing of this bill is being considered another big step in this sequence. Apart from this, the Private University Bill was also passed.
