Nowadays cyber criminals are carrying out cybercrime in different ways. Due to this, people are suffering heavy economic losses. One such scam is happening in UPI in the name of Pull Transaction. In this, scammers send payment requests to people. If someone accidentally accepts it, then money is blown away from his account. In view of the increasing cases of the scam, now this method is being considered.

What is Pull Transaction?

In Pull Transaction, a merchant sends a payment request to the customer. In this, the amount of payment is already given. To pay the customer only has to enter UPI PIN. On the other hand, push transaction is the one in which the customer itself pays the QR code or pays the merchant in other ways. In this, the amount also fills the amount. RBI data shows that in the first half of 2024-25, more than 27,000 complaints related to bridge transactions have been filed.

Thoughts on closing the way

It is being considered to stop it to prevent increasing cyber crimes through bridge transactions. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is talking to banks for this. So far this conversation is in a very early stage and no decision has been taken on implementing it.

How to avoid UPI scams?

  • Do not share any sensitive information including UPI PIN with any unknown or suspicious person.
  • Watch the payment request on UPI carefully. Accept the request of the amount of money you have taken.
  • Always download UPI apps from official source. Never download the app from the link sent by the unknown person.
  • Be careful when using public Wi-Fi. Also keep watching the message coming from the bank carefully. Contact the bank immediately if suspected transactions occur.
