UPSC Success Story IFS Vidushi Singh become ifs in first attempt without coaching

Success Story:
Sometimes, to fulfill the dreams of our loved ones, we leave behind many big things. Vidushi Singh, who secured All India 13th rank in UPSC in her first attempt at the age of 21 without any coaching, is also one of those people. To fulfill the dream of her grandparents, she chose Indian Foreign Service (IFS) instead of IAS or IPS despite being a top rank. Vidushi’s grandparents always wanted her to become an Indian Foreign Service officer and work for the country in the world. This is the reason that even after achieving a big position at the age of 21 without coaching, Vidushi chose the service which was more important for her grandparents, unlike the common selected participants.

Achieved success through self study
Vidushi, who grew up in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, has her roots in Ayodhya. After completing BA Honors (Economics) from Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce in 2021, Vidushi started preparing for UPSC. Vidushi chose self-study as her medium instead of any coaching and started preparing for UPSC while studying in college. Vidushi emphasized on taking a well-thought-out decision regarding the choice of optional subject.

Preparation from basic books
Vidushi says that during graduation, she strengthened the foundation of her UPSC preparation through NCERT and other basic books. Vidushi, who secured 13th rank in All India in her first attempt of UPSC at the age of just 21, had kept Economics as her optional subject. However, she preferred Indian Foreign Service over IAS or IPS. Vidushi believes that most of the studies or preparation done in coaching and the study material provided is available online or in basic books.

Grandparents’ dream was bigger than position
During an interview, she told that her grandparents dreamt that she should become an officer in the Indian Foreign Service. Because her grandparents’ dream was more important to her than any post, she thought it better to become an IFSC officer instead. Regarding the UPSC exam, she says that test series, mock tests and self study are the most important steps to success. If we prepare diligently with complete honesty towards ourselves, then the exam can be passed even without coaching.
