The journey from Alipur to the airport via Najafgarh in the capital will be completed in 20 minutes next year. The construction work of the under-construction Urban Extension Road (UER)-2 is in its final stage. The construction work of this 75-km long road is being done in five packages. In this, the construction work of four packages has been completed more than 90 percent, while the construction work of one package is going on at a slow pace. Officials claim that it will be completely opened to the public next year. After its opening, the pressure of about 2.5 lakh vehicles in Delhi will be reduced daily.

UER-2, starting from Delhi-Panipat Highway near Alipur, will pass through Rohini, Mundka, Najafgarh, Dwarka and end at Delhi-Gurugram Expressway on National Highway-48 near Mahipalpur. Its three packages are 38 km long. The first package is from NH-1 Delhi-Panipat Highway intersection to Karala-Kanjhawala Road (15.70 km), the second package is from Karala-Kanjhawala Road to Nangloi-Najafgarh Road (13.45 km), the third package is from Nangloi-Najafgarh Road to Dwarka Sector-24 (9.66 km).

At the same time, construction work is going on on two roads of 37.29 km length. These include Bawana Industrial Area to Barwasani Bypass Sonipat (29.60 km) and Dhichau Kalan to Bahadurgarh Bypass (7.2 km). Through these two roads, vehicles from Sonipat and Bahadurgarh will be able to go towards the airport and Gurugram without any hindrance.

NHAI officials say that the construction work of packages one, three, four and five is in the final stage. While the construction work of package two, Karala-Kanjhawala Road to Nangloi-Najafgarh Road (13.45 km), is going on at a slow pace. There are some technical complexities during the construction work here. However, officials say that this package will be completed soon.

There will be 27 flyovers and 11 underpasses

UER-2, which is being constructed at a cost of about eight thousand crores, includes 27 flyovers, two ROBs, 11 underpasses, 27 small and big bridges, 17 subways, 31 bus byes and 111 km of service road. This project is also known as the third ring road of Delhi. Atul Ranjit Kumar, National General Secretary of Guru Hanuman Society of India, an organization working for road safety and improvement, says that with the opening of this road, the pressure of vehicles on the roads inside Delhi will be reduced considerably. Cargo vehicles will not have to come on the inner roads of Delhi. Pollution will be controlled and time and fuel will also be saved. Vehicles coming from Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, which have to go towards the airport, Gurugram, Jaipur, will get signal free travel.

Will be equipped with surveillance system

UER-2 will be equipped with a modern surveillance system. With this, every vehicle can be easily tracked. Vehicles breaking the rules will be immediately challaned. For this, Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) will be installed, which will also help in easily getting information about two-wheelers. For this, Automatic Number Plate Reader (NAPR) cameras will be installed.
