A senior US lawmaker praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the economic progress and developmental work done in India since 2014, saying that he has become the face of India. Brad Sherman, considered one of the biggest supporters of India in the US Parliament, said that India and America have Narendra Modi Bilateral relations have seen strengthening during his tenure. Referring to China, he also said that there is no democracy there and neither can the legal system be trusted there. He also said that India’s defense relations with Russia are a challenge to the relations between India and America.
Sharman said in an interview to PTI on Tuesday (April 9), ‘He (Modi) has become the face of India and we have seen very significant economic progress. Of course, every country has its own challenges, every leader has his own challenges. I do not give credit for the success of any country to just one leader. I mean you have more than 1.3 billion people and they are all working together to make India a more successful country.
Sharman (68) is a Democratic member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives and has been working towards strengthening relations between India and America for the last 28 years. He said, ‘The relations between America and India have become very strong. I know this because I am the former chair of the US India Caucus here in the House of Representatives, which is the largest. We made it the largest of all bipartisan caucuses.
Sharman said that relations between India and America have strengthened especially in the defense sector. He said, ‘Trade between America and India has increased rapidly. Undoubtedly, Indian-Americans are the most educated and have the highest incomes of all ethnic groups in America. Sharman said he would like to see further expansion of trade relations between the two countries.
He said, ‘I have spoken to many businessmen about how India is an excellent place to invest and a better place to do business than countries that are not democratic and do not have an established rule of law. “Especially those who manufacture in China should consider the fact that it is not a democratic country and it is not a country whose system of rule of law can be trusted.”
Sharman said, ‘It is extremely important for the success of any business to have access to a fair and honest court system which India has, but some countries do not have.’ The American lawmaker also said that defense relations between India and Russia remain intact and this is a challenge for US-India relations.
