In many states, government procurement of coarse grains is done at the minimum support price, so that the farmers can also get profit. For the first time, Uttar Pradesh has also started purchasing millet at the minimum support price.

The good thing is that for the convenience of the farmers, the UP government has now extended the period for the purchase of millet at the minimum support price (MSP) by 15 days, which means that now the farmers can do their farming till January 12 without any worry in the bitter cold. Government’s millet can be sold.

Millet procurement going on in UP
For information, let us tell you that in about 18 districts of Uttar Pradesh, the purchase of millet at the minimum support price is going on, for which the government has set up 106 purchase centers. A target of 50000 metric tonnes has been set for the purchase of millet from the mandis of Agra, Firozabad, Mathura, Mainpuri, Aligarh, Kasganj, Hathras, Etah, Bareilly, Badaun, Sambhal, Bulandshahr, Kanpur Dehat, Auraiya, Etawah, Jalaun, Prayagraj and Ghazipur districts. Was done, in relation to which 42.95 thousand metric tonnes of millet has been purchased. The state government has extended the period for selling millet by 15 days, in which there are strong possibilities of meeting the target.

During the Kharif Marketing Season 2022-23, the Marketing Branch of the Fertilizer and Logistics Department has fixed the minimum support price of millet at Rs 2350 per quintal. About 8,452 farmers have sold their millet produce on MSP itself, in lieu of which a payment of Rs 90.15 crore has been transferred to the farmers’ bank accounts.

Quoting media reports, Uttar Pradesh’s Food Commissioner Sourav Babu says that more and more farmers can get the benefit of the price support scheme, so the government has extended the period of purchase of millet till January 12 i.e. for 15 days in the interest of the farmers. has given. Last year, the farmers of UP had sown millet in an area of ​​more than 10,000 hectares.

Maize also bought on MSP
Maize has also been procured during the Kharif Marketing Season 2023 at the minimum support price. This was the fifth year of maize procurement, in which farmers bought maize at the rate of Rs 1,962 per quintal. The market price of maize will also be very good this year, but farmers showed interest in selling maize at the minimum support price. Many times the target of government procurement is not met even if the market price is high.

Paddy procurement continues on MSP
Under the Kharif Marketing Season 2022-23, 4431 purchase centers have been set up in Uttar Pradesh for the purchase of paddy, from where a target of 70 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been fixed, although the state is far behind the set target. About 42.52 lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been procured in the state. In this case, Uttar Pradesh’s Food Commissioner Sourav Babu says that 61 percent of the target paddy has been purchased from 6.74 lakh farmers.

Last year, till this period, the state government had procured 42.38 lakh metric tonnes of paddy. At the same time, this year a payment of Rs 6,969 crore has been transferred to the bank account of the farmers. Let us tell you that paddy will be procured at the minimum support price in western Uttar Pradesh till January 31, 2023 and in eastern Uttar Pradesh till February 28, 2023.
