Whatever government is formed in UP after the assembly elections of 2027, its tenure will be only two years. If the system of ‘One Nation-One Election’ is implemented, assembly elections will be held here twice within two years. In the year 1991 and 1996 also, Lok Sabha and state assembly elections were held simultaneously in the state.
Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana says that the Ramnath Kovind Committee has said in its recommendations that the term of any state in which assembly elections will be held after the year 2024 will end with the term of the Lok Sabha in 2029. If we look at it this way, the next assembly elections in UP will be held in 2027. After that, mid-term assembly elections will have to be held in the year 2029.

Experts say that when a law is made in this regard based on the recommendations of the Kovind Committee, only then will it be known which recommendations of the committee were included in the Act. It is not necessary that every recommendation becomes a part of the law.
It would have been better to hold assembly elections along with local bodies: Prof. Gupta
Professor Sanjay Gupta of Political Science at Lucknow University says that the issue of the tenure of the Vidhan Sabha does not come under the basic structure of the Constitution. That is, the Constitution can be amended to increase or decrease this tenure. It has been suggested to hold elections for local bodies 100 days after the Lok Sabha elections, it would have been better if the provision for Vidhan Sabha elections was made along with the civic elections.
