Vaishakh Month 2024: The second month of Hindi calendar, Vaishakh, has started from 24th April. This month will last till 23rd May. The heat is in full effect in the month of Vaishakh.   • For good health, do exercise for some time. If you delay in getting up, the heat will increase and you will not feel like exercising.
  • Do not be careless about food. Be sure to drink appropriate amount of water during summer.
  • Eat such things which are easy to digest. Eat only fresh food as far as possible.
  • Avoid eating stale food, because food spoils quickly due to heat. One should avoid roaming too much in the sun during summer. If it is very important to go in the sun, you can carry an umbrella.

It is written in Skanda and Padma Purana that taking bath and donating in this month gives as much virtue as performing Ashwamedha Yagya. In this month, apart from worshiping Lord Vishnu, the virtue gained from worshiping other Gods and Goddesses increases. There will be many Teej-festivals in the month of Vaishakh in which the sins committed knowingly or unknowingly are eliminated by fasting.

  • Sankashti Chaturthi (27 April): Vikat Chauth fast will be observed on this day. The formidable form of Lord Ganesha will be worshiped and after sunset, the fast will be broken by worshiping the moon and offering Arghya.
  • Varuthini Ekadashi (4th May): Due to Varuthini Ekadashi on this day, special worship, abhishek and fast of Lord Vishnu will be observed. By observing this fast one gets the virtue of performing many yagyas.
  • Vaishakh Amavasya (8 May): This day is the new moon day of Vaishakh month. This is the festival of worship of ancestors. Taking bath and donating on this day is considered virtuous.
  • Akshaya Tritiya (10 May): This is a great festival of bathing, donation and shopping. On this day, the festival of appearance of Lord Parshuram is also celebrated.
  • Ganga Saptami (14 May): There is a tradition of worshiping Ganga and taking bath on this day. On this Saptami Tithi of Vaishakh month, Rishi Janhu freed Goddess Ganga from his ears.
  • Vrish Sankranti (14 May): On this day the Sun will enter Taurus. The auspicious results of bathing and donating on this festival of change of Sun’s zodiac sign never end.
  • Sita Navami (16 May): According to some texts and beliefs, Goddess Sita appeared on the ninth date of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month, hence Goddess Sita is worshiped on this day.
  • Mohini Ekadashi (19 May): Being Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month, this day is considered very auspicious. On this date Lord Vishnu took Mohini incarnation.
  • Vaishakh Purnima (23 May): This will be the last date of Vaishakh month. Bathing and donating on this day gives as much virtue as performing many yagyas. Buddha Jayanti will be celebrated on this day.
