The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
BJP’s Bharatbhai Kikubhai Patel defeated AAP’s Rajeshbhai Mangubhai Patel by 1,03,776 votes in Valsad assembly seat of Valsad district. BJP candidate got 1,26,323 votes while AAP candidate Rajeshbhai got 22,547 votes. Congress remained at number three. Its candidate Kamalbhai Shantilal Patel got 21,522 votes, which was only 12.23 percent of the total votes. Apart from the BJP, the deposits of all other candidates were forfeited. NOTA got 2,815 votes here.
BJP got victory in 2017
The BJP had won the Valsad seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, BJP had nominated Bharatbhai Kikubhai Patel as its candidate from this seat. Patel defeated Narendra Kumar Tandel of Congress by 43,000 votes. A total of seven candidates were in the fray here. Apart from these two, the deposits of the remaining five candidates were forfeited.
Bharatbhai scored a hat-trick of victory
This is Bharat Bhai’s third consecutive victory on Valsad seat. Before 2022, he has won the elections in 2017 and 2012 as well. The BJP has been holding this seat since 1990. In 1990, 1995, 1998, 2002 and 2007, Daulatrai Nathubhai Desai had won the BJP from this seat. Daulatrai Desai was MLA from Valsad seat for a total of six times. Apart from leading the BJP to victory five times, he won on a Congress ticket in 1980. In the 1985 elections also, Daulatrai was in the fray as an independent candidate. However, he had to face defeat.
Out of the total 14 elections held so far on the Valsad seat, eight times this seat has gone to the BJP’s account. At the same time, Congress has won here four times. Keshavbhai Ratanji Patel was successful in winning here on Congress (O) ticket twice (1972 and 1975).
