Abhishek Jaiswal/ Varanasi:Kashi’s Tiranga Barfi, which played an important role in the country’s freedom movement, has got the GI tag. After getting the GI tag, Tiranga Barfi, famous for its taste across the country, will get a new identity. Let us tell you that after Tiranga Barfi got the GI tag, now there are a total of 34 such products in Kashi, which have got the copyright of Banaras.
Varun Gupta, director of Ram Bhandar, said that it is a matter of great happiness that Tricolor Barfi has got the GI tag. Let us tell you that the tricolor barfi made in Pakka Mahal area of Banaras had awakened the feeling of patriotism among the people before independence. Before independence, when there was a ban on the tricolor, even the British were shocked to see this barfi, because this barfi was exactly the color of the national flag of India.
It was prepared in 1940
Varun Gupta, director of Ram Bhandar, told that in 1940, Madan Gopal Gupta, the then director of Ram Bhandar, had prepared this barfi. Other revolutionaries also helped him in making this barfi. At that time, this barfi was distributed free to raise the alarm against the British rule.
Made from natural ingredients
By the way, this tricolor barfi is now visible in all the sweet shops of Varanasi. But the taste of the same Tiranga Barfi of 1940 is still intact at Ram Bhandar. The special thing is that in preparing this tricolor barfi, no color is used but natural ingredients are used. Saffron and pistachios are used to make saffron, white and green colored barfi.
