Many may remember that in 2019, Vijay received praise for playing the role of a transperson named Shilpa in the Tamil film Super Deluxe. While fans expected the film to be India’s official selection for the Oscars, they were shocked when Ranveer Singh’s Gully Boy was sent instead.
Talking about it, Vijay said at the event, ‘It was heartbreaking for me and the team of Super Deluxe. I was devastated, but this is politics’, we know something has happened. It’s not because I was in that film. Even if I was not in that film, I would still want that film to go there. Something happened in between and I don’t want to talk about it.
