Viral Video: Darshan of Mumbai’s Lalbaug, question raised on discrimination between common and VIP devotees, is this right?

Mumbai’s Lalbaugcha Raja is one of the most revered Ganesh idols in the country and not just the metropolis. For about 11 days, the idol is available for public viewing in a grand pandal. On this occasion, lakhs of devotees come here from far and wide. Recently, a video of this inadvertently exposed the huge disparity in the treatment meted out to VIPs and common devotees.

Industrialist Harsh Goenka has shared a video of Lalbaugcha Raja pandal and tried to show the difference in the treatment meted out to both types of devotees. His video shows the treatment meted out to common devotees. He wrote, “Ever wondered why people choose VIP darshan at Lalbaugcha Raja?”

“This is because the common devotee is often faced with long waits and crowds and as it progresses, security and staff can be seen forcefully closing the gates while devotees struggle to get in.”

In the end, the camera shows a woman comforting another woman to ensure she is okay after experiencing a chaotic, stampede-like situation. In another video from the pandal, employees of the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal are seen roughly handling devotees.
