Viral Video Of IAS Officer Giving CPR Doctors Share When And Why CPR Should Be Used

CPR Method: A video has surfaced from Chandigarh. A video of IAS officer Yashpal Garg giving CPR to an unconscious person grabbed attention on Wednesday. In the video, the IAS officer can be seen giving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to a person sitting on a chair. While everyone praised the IAS officer after watching this video, medical experts have raised several questions on the administration of the CPR procedure and the medical condition of the patient. Dr. Sawaiman Singh Pakhoke, President/Founder 5 River Heart Association, Medical Doctor-MayoClinic shared a video on Instagram in which he explains why the CPR process can be harmful to the patient.

Can life be saved by giving CPR in case of heart attack?

CPR helps blood to flow throughout the body. This can be due to many factors like low sugar, low blood pressure and heart condition or brain dysfunction. If not taken care of on time, it can be serious. As defined, in unconsciousness, cardiac and respiratory activities are functioning normally, so there is no need for CPR. It is given only in cases where heart and respiration is absent.

Giving CPR can be dangerous in many ways

Doctors have rejected the video and said in many cases it could have killed the person. CPR is a strenuous procedure and can lead to rib-cage fractures, damage to organs and systemic adverse effects. But when lives are at stake, adversities are not taken into account, said a doctor on condition of anonymity. “CPR is a life-saving procedure and discussing its adversities may discourage people from giving it to someone who really needs it.

Giving CPR to someone who is not having a heart attack can be fatal to that person. “If you do CPR on someone, you can break ribs, damage the lungs, liver, and heart. If you do compressions on someone with a normal heartbeat, you can interfere with the normal heartbeat.” and can harm the heart. So, don’t practice. On real people who don’t need it.

What is the correct procedure for giving CPR?

CPR is a life-saving method that should only be performed by trained professionals. To do CPR compression, first of all the patient should lie on his back on a hard surface. Then place the lower palm (heel) of your hand on the center of the person’s chest between the nipples. Place your second hand on top of the first hand. Keep your elbows straight and keep your shoulders directly above your hands. Compress the chest at least 2 inches (5 cm) but no more than 2.4 inches (6 cm). Use your entire body weight (not just your arms) when doing compressions. Push vigorously at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions a minute.
