What is vitiligo?
Light white spots appear on the skin due to vitiligo. Deficiency of melanin, which is the pigment found in the skin, causes vitiligo. Although vitiligo can affect any part of the skin, it is most common on the face, neck, hands and skin folds. It can also start on the lips, finger tips and genitals. This disease is not fatal or contagious, this problem related to the skin is seen more in people with diseases like thyroid.
Signs and symptoms of this disease
Vitiligo is usually first seen on the face, hands, arms, legs and feet.
Rapid loss of hair on your body, including hair on the eyebrows and face.
Mostly it is asymptomatic and does not have any symptoms like itching or pain.
Thyroid and adrenal gland problems.
vitiligo detection
After examining the skin, the dermatologist will be able to detect vitiligo. To rule out other skin conditions, doctors will look for symptoms associated with them, such as other hypopigmentary disorders such as common eczema or healing psoriasis lesions. Most likely the doctor will examine each area of your skin to determine which type of vitiligo you have where the patches appear. Patches are easily applied on dark skin. For confirmation, the doctor may recommend additional tests. Thyroid disease, diabetes mellitus, pernicious anemia, Addison’s disease, and alopecia areata have all been linked to vitiligo. Although there is no cure for vitiligo, proper treatment can stop or slow down the process and restore some color to the skin.
