Children are falling ill in summer due to drinking contaminated juice and eating open chaat and pakodas. They are complaining of stomach ache, vomiting and diarrhea. The number of patients in the OPD of the Pediatrics Department of SN Medical College, Agra, Tajnagari, has increased by 30 percent. Three to five children have to be admitted due to diarrhea.

Head of Pediatrics Department, Dr. Neeraj Yadav said that children are eating and drinking chaat, fast food and other items including ice balls sold in the open. This is causing stomach infection. Initially there are cramps, stomach pain and then vomiting and diarrhea. The child is feeling lethargic after fever.

The numbers in OPD have increased rapidly in the last 8-10 days. If there is blood in the stool and dry skin, then admission is done. Dr. Manish Bansal of the Medicine Department said that due to contaminated water and food, patients suffering from flatulence, indigestion, sour belching, vomiting and diarrhea have increased.

Do this-

  • Drink 3 to 5 liters of water, every hour.
  • Avoid eating fried and stale food.
  • Drink curd, buttermilk, coconut water, shikanji.
  • Eat salad of tomato, cucumber, onion.
  • Eat juicy fruits including orange, watermelon, melon, grapes.
  • Avoid eating and drinking food items sold openly and unhygienic.
  • Wear glasses and cover your head while going out in the sun.
  • Do not stop children from eating and drinking when they have diarrhea.
  • Consult a doctor if ORS does not help.
