The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.

BJP’s Jagdishbhai Prabhubhai Makwana defeated AAP’s Hitendrakumar Bhagwanjibhai Patel by 65,489 votes in Wadhwan assembly seat in Surendranagar district. BJP candidate got 1,05,903 votes while AAP got 40,414 votes here. Congress remained at number three. Its candidate Tarunbhai Biharidan Gadhvi got 22,385 votes, which was only 12.71 percent of the total votes. The deposits of nine including Congress and BSP candidates were forfeited. NOTA got 2,875 votes here.

BJP got victory in 2017
The BJP had won the Wadhawan seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, BJP had made Dhanjibhai Patel its candidate from this seat. He defeated Mohanbhai Patel of Congress by 19,000 votes. A total of 18 candidates were in the fray here. Apart from these two, the deposits of the remaining 16 candidates were forfeited.
The Wadhawan seat has been held by the BJP since 1990. Since then, BJP has won here eight times in 1990, 1995, 1998, 2002, 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2022. The Congress had last won this seat in 1985. Congress candidates have been successful in winning here a total of four times. Independent and Swatantra Party candidates have got success once each in Wadhawan seat.
