Water Crisis In Tunisia Government Has Started Water Rationing


Water Crisis: Water is the basis of life. Apart from quenching thirst, many important tasks of our daily life are done with water. Some people waste a lot of water. But, just imagine what will happen if water is given to you after measuring and weighing… Yes, this is going to happen in one country of the world. There a quota system has been imposed on drinking water. Means only limited water will be available for drinking.

The use of water for agriculture is banned in Tunisia. There people will get only limited amount of water for drinking and this system is going to be implemented for the next six months. The people of Tunisia will get drinking water by measuring and weighing it till 30 September. Actually, this ban has been imposed due to severe drought. The reason for the drought is said to be climate change and excessive use of water present inside the ground.

Water decreased in dams

Hamadi Habib, an official of Tunisia’s Ministry of Agriculture, told that the country has been facing a severe drought for the past several months. Dams with a capacity of 100 crore cubic meters of water now have only 30 per cent capacity.

Those who break the rules will be jailed

Keeping in view the criticality of the situation, the Ministry of Agriculture has decided that there will be rationing of drinking water for the next six months. It is forbidden to use water for works like washing cars, watering plants and cleaning streets. If someone violates the rules, he can be punished with fine, jail or both. Under Tunisia’s water law, this person can be jailed for six days to six months.
