The Central Government has given a big gift to the people of Lakshadweep Islands. The government has reduced the price of petrol and diesel by Rs 15.3 per liter for Andrott and Kalpeni Islands in Lakshadweep Island. Whereas for Kavaratti and Minicoy this reduction is Rs 5.2 per liter. But do you know why such a huge reduction has been made in the price of petrol diesel in this state.
Why was the price reduced?
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that Indian Oil Corporation supplies petrol and diesel to four islands in Lakshadweep – Kavaratti, Minicoy, Andrott and Kalpeni. The depots of this government company are in Kavaratti and Minicoy. These are supplied from IOCL depot in Kochi, Kerala. The ministry said that the cost of delivering petrol and diesel to the depots of Lakshadweep islands was very high and accordingly it was not profitable. Therefore, to recover the capital expenditure, an additional charge of Rs 6.90 per liter was imposed on petrol and diesel three years ago. It became Rs 7.60 including 10 percent VAT. But now the recovery has been completed, hence this charge has been removed.
Why was the charge different
According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, all To equalize the price across the islands, the charge of Rs 7.60 per liter was divided among the four islands based on sales volume. Due to this, the retail selling price of petrol and diesel in the main islands – Kavaratti and Minicoy will reduce by Rs 5.2 per liter. Whereas for other islands i.e. Androt and Kalpeni, this reduction will be around Rs 15.3/litre.
How much is the price of petrol?
After the new reduction, now Petrol will be available at Rs 100.75 per liter and diesel at Rs 95.71 per liter on all the islands of Lakshadweep. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri credits Prime Minister for reducing the prices of petrol and diesel in Lakshadweep
