Singapore’s Health Ministry said that in the week from May 5 to 11, the number of corona infected people has reached more than 25,900. There were 13,700 cases in the previous week. This means 90% more cases have been reported. The Filart variant (KP.2) is dominant in most of these cases.

Thomas A. Russo, head of infectious diseases at Buffalo University in New York, says that there can be not one but many reasons for the sudden increase in Covid-19. The most important of these is that viruses keep mutating to maintain their existence. In which changes are also happening continuously. The new variant is an updated form of the filter Omicron. Due to mutation, some changes are taking place in its spike protein, which is constantly changing its form.
The second reason for the increase in corona infection
The second reason for the increase in Covid-19 infection is the weakening immunity. The number of people with weak immune system is continuously increasing across the world. The number of youth is more in this. Due to which the sensitivity towards the new wave is increasing. With time, the effect of the vaccine is also decreasing. Due to which the cases of infection are increasing.

Epidemiologists say that the third reason for the increase in corona infection again is the age of vaccine coverage. According to CDC, only 22.6% of adults have got the Covid-19 vaccine since September 2023, while those aged 75 years or older have shown awareness about vaccination. Due to which the youth have less protection system against Corona compared to the elderly. This is the reason that according to recent reports, the youth are most vulnerable to the new variants of Corona.
