What is Agnipath Scheme and why is it opposed by the youth, does it affect the elections also know in detail

Why Agnipath Scheme Is Opposed: Under the Agneepath scheme, youth are recruited in all three forces i.e. water, land and air. They are called Agniveer. It was started in the year 2022 and since then this scheme has been opposed many times. This time it is even being said that this scheme has had an impact on the elections and the displeasure of the youth has been expressed. Before moving ahead, let us know what this scheme is.

what is this scheme

Under this scheme, youth between the ages of 17 and 21 are recruited in the three armies. These recruitments are published from time to time in which interested youth join the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. These are conducted region-wise and not only are there separate recruitments for UP, Haryana and Rajasthan, but the exams are also held at the same level and the results are also published in the same way.

The appointment is for a term of four years

Under this recruitment process, the selected youth get appointment in the army for four years. After these four years, only 25 percent of the youth are kept in the army permanently and the rest retire.

For this, candidates from 10th to 12th pass can apply according to the post. They get different salary every year. Like 30 thousand in the first year, 33 thousand in the second year, 36,500 in the third year and 40 thousand in the fourth year. Selection is done after passing many levels of examination from written examination to physical test. If they are killed in war, they do not get the status of martyr.

Why is there a controversy

There are many controversies regarding the Agneepath scheme and the main one is the termination of their service after four years. This is considered to be a forced retirement which has been criticised by the youth. They are not happy with only 25 percent getting permanent appointment.

Along with this, in four years of service, these Agniveers contribute Rs 5.02 lakh from their salary to Coopers Fund, the same amount is being given by the government as well. After four years, these soldiers will get a lump sum of Rs 11.71 lakh which is much less than the regular soldiers. However, they will not have to pay any tax.

They will not get pension, gratuity, canteen and post retirement facilities. They will not get the status of martyr. There is anger among the youth on all these aspects. There have been protests against this scheme many times. It is also believed that in this election, UP, Haryana, Rajasthan, where most of the youth join the army, have expressed their displeasure, due to which the government has to face the consequences. It is also possible that the government makes some changes in the scheme this time.
