Cervical Cancer Vaccine: Cancer is becoming a rapidly spreading dangerous disease at the present time. People walking around are becoming its victims and they are not even aware of it. In women too, after breast cancer and ovary cancer, another cancer is emerging rapidly, which is very dangerous. The cancer that we are talking about in women is ‘cervical cancer’. Cervical cancer is caused by infection with the HPV (human papillomavirus) virus. It is a sexually transmitted virus, which spreads through having sex. If someone is repeatedly infected with this virus, then he can become a victim of this dangerous disease later.
According to the report of Hindustan Times, in view of increasing cases of cervical cancer in women, the Government of India has recently announced that a nationwide immunization drive will be started in April for girls aged 9 to 14 years. Under this drive, that new vaccine will be used, which can target Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). HPV virus itself creates the risk of cervical cancer in future. Sometimes it also causes other cancers.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), since 2019, 41 lakh women in India have lost their lives due to this dreaded disease. WHO also claimed that 57 lakh women are likely to die by 2070. WHO directed that all countries should strive to reach and maintain a rate of less than 4 new cases per 1,00,000 women every year by 2030. Preventive vaccination of women is necessary to reduce the risk of cervical cancer.
National Technical Advisory Group of Immunization Chairperson NK Arora told WHO that a proper roadmap and strategy has been prepared for vaccination. The experiences gained from the Covid vaccination drive have helped us a lot. The ‘quadrivalent vaccine’, also known as “Cervavac”, developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII). This vaccine provides protection against the HPV virus in many ways.
hpv a sexually transmitted virus
At present, India is completely dependent on foreign manufacturers for vaccines, which are very expensive. India wants more affordable vaccination against HPV so that more and more women can get the benefit. HPV is a sexually transmitted virus, which affects the genitals, throat and mouth. The production of Ceravac, a vaccine made against this disease, started at the end of 2022. This vaccine will be made available at a cost of 200 to 400 Indian rupees per dose. It is expected that Serum Institute of India will produce about 200 million doses in two years.
