Due to the government’s strictness regarding petrol inflation and pollution, people in the country and the world are running towards hybrid vehicles. Many times you must have also heard about dual fuel engine. People never get tired of telling about its advantages and disadvantages. But what is the reality? What is dual fuel engine? An expert has answered about this.
Animesh Kumar Sinha, who described himself as the Chief Engineer in Railways, wrote, Dual Fuel Engine is just like its name. It uses two types of fuel. One natural gas and the other diesel. The main fuel in this is natural gas. Diesel is used as auxiliary fuel. Diesel starts the fire by burning first. That is why it is also called pilot fuel. Then natural gas like LNG or CNG operates this engine.
Then why the need for a separate engine?
Now the question arises that a truck or bus with CNG engine is already running, then why the need for a separate engine? Understand the science behind it. Spark plugs are used in existing CNG engines. Just like there is a plug in a petrol engine. Its working efficiency is less than diesel engine. Spark plug is not used in diesel engine. It creates so much compression that it ignites on its own without any spark. Unlike petrol engine, diesel engine does not have a carburetor. In a dual fuel engine, initially a mixture of CNG and air is drawn inside. Then the piston goes up and it increases the pressure on the mixture. Due to this it becomes hot. Then diesel is sprayed, which burns automatically. Along with this, natural gas also flares up. This releases immense energy. Which pushes the piston down.

This results in a huge reduction in fuel expenses. Both LNG/CNG are much cheaper than diesel. They do not spread pollution. Dual fuel engines can also run only on gas or only on diesel. Its advantage is that you can run it even where there is no facility to fill LNG/CNG. Let us tell you that German company MAN has also developed a gas starting engine. After this the need for diesel will reduce.
