South Asians, especially Indians, are very fond of eating and drinking. We like to eat different types of food three times a day. There are some things in Indian food which are traditionally prevalent. One of these dishes is Raita. Usually everyone likes it but very few people would know what to call it in English.
If we talk about Indian feasts, they are not complete without raita. Be it parathas for breakfast or a full meal for lunch, raita enhances its taste. By the way, you may not even know what this dish is called in English, but think seriously, from which language did it get the name ‘raita’.
What is Raita called in English?
Phrases like Raita phailna and Raita phailana are used a lot. This dish is made by mixing something with curd and various experiments are also done with it. Now tell me, if we have to speak Raita in English, then what will we call it? The English word for Raita is – Mixed Curd. When curd is mixed with something, it becomes Mixed Curd. By the way, if we talk about foreign dishes, then curd salad i.e. salad with curd seasoning or dip is very close to it but Raita is not their authentic recipe. The reason for this is that Raita is a purely Indian dish, which originated in the Hindi language itself.
