There are different species of fauna and flora in the world. Each has different properties and utility. We get food related things from some animals, while we use some to get our work done. Similarly, plants also have different importance in our lives. Where some other animals and plants are useful for us. At the same time, there are some flora and fauna which can even lead to our death. Such creatures are either dreaded or mostly poisonous. In the case of organisms, two words are used for poison in English, the first is Poison and the second is Venom. Do you know there is a big difference between these two?

Difference between Poison and Venom

Although both the words Poison and Venom are used for poison, but the meanings of both are different. There is a big difference between them. According to the report of Live Science, Poison is that which can kill you if you eat it. However, death can also occur from Venom, but Venom is called that which is injected into your body.

Such creatures which are not poisonous, but if they are eaten, then death can happen. Whereas, Venom is the poison that is injected into your body when an animal bites. For example, some frogs will be called poisonous and snakes or scorpions will be called venomous.

Simply put, Venom is directly injected by an animal, while Poison is given passively, such as by touching or swallowing.

According to Jason Strickland, a biologist at the University of South Alabama in a report in Live Science, if you bite it and you get sick, it is poisonous. If it bites or stings you and you get sick, it is venomous.
