Decisions related to VVIP security are taken by a committee consisting of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials, the Home Secretary and the Home Minister. Sometimes VVIP security is also provided on the basis of the recommendations of the state government. VIP status in India is assessed on the basis of the number of armed security personnel provided to that person, which ranges from 2 to 40. SPG and NSG security is provided to VVIPs.
