According to reports, the Chinese government had ordered Apple to remove these apps citing the security of its country. However, Meta’s other three apps Instagram, Facebook and Messenger are still working in China. Apart from these three apps, Elon Musk’s micro blogging site X and YouTube are also working in China.

China’s Cyberspace Administration took the decision

According to a latest report by Reuters, Apple said in its statement that, “China’s Cyberspace Administration has ordered the removal of WhatsApp and Threads from the App Store.” According to the report, Apple further said in its statement that, we have to follow the rules of the country in which we operate, whether we agree with their rules or not.”

There has been no response from Meta regarding this yet. On the other hand, China’s government department has also not given any reaction regarding this yet. Now it remains to be seen whether Meta negotiates with the Chinese government and makes changes to get its app re-listed in China’s App Store.
