Whatsapp in old iPhones: WhatsApp will soon stop working on some old iPhone models. According to a report, iOS 15.1 or newer version will be mandatory to run WhatsApp from May 5, 2025. This means that iPhone users who cannot update to iOS 12.5.7 will have to either get a new device or replace their existing device to run WhatsApp.
Which iPhones will be affected?
According to WABetainfo report, this change will only affect those iPhones that cannot update to iOS 15.1 or above. Users who already have iOS 15.1 or newer will not face any problems.

Currently WhatsApp supports iOS 12 and above versions. But after the upcoming update, it will run only on iOS 15.1 or newer versions. WhatsApp has given affected users five months to prepare. During this time they can update their device or choose an option that supports the new iOS version.
Affected iPhone models
According to the report, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be affected by this change. These iPhones were launched 10 years ago, so the number of users running WhatsApp on these models is expected to be very low. Those who have newer iPhone models and have a version older than iOS 15.1 can update their device by going to iPhone’s Settings > General > Software Update.
Why is WhatsApp doing this?
WABetainfo says that the main reason for discontinuing support for older iPhones is to use advanced technologies and APIs available in new versions of iOS. New iOS versions contain updated features and technology, which helps WhatsApp to develop new features and improve its app. By stopping support for older versions, WhatsApp can provide a better experience to its users and implement features that are not compatible with older operating systems.
Apart from this, it is believed that WhatsApp may have analyzed the number of active users on older iOS versions. Based on the data, it has been decided that very few users are dependent on the old version. Thus, WhatsApp can now focus on the new iOS version and work towards providing better features to most of its users.
