According to information, the tradition of lawyers wearing black coats started from England. The Indian judicial system runs on the British system. Therefore, the tradition of lawyers wearing black coats in Indian courts is still going on. In 1865, the royal family of England ordered judges and lawyers to wear black clothes in court on the death of King Charles II. However, the dress code proposal of black coat for lawyers was put forward in 1637 itself. Due to which they looked different from the common people. Since then, the trend of wearing black coat in court started. In India, it was made mandatory for lawyers to wear black coat in the year 1961. It is believed that this dress code brings discipline in lawyers and increases their faith in justice.
What is the matter
From social media to newspapers, black coat is being mentioned in this summer. Actually, advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi has requested the court in his petition that lawyers should be exempted from wearing black coat and gown in the summer months. In the petition, he has said that in the increasing heat, this can cause trouble and health related problems to the lawyers. In the petition, he has said that black coat and gown were implemented as British dress code. However, while implementing it, the country’s climate was not taken into consideration.
Why does black colour feel hot?
It is true that black clothes make one feel hotter. Actually, black and dark coloured clothes absorb more sunlight. When you stay in the sun, black coloured clothes will absorb sunlight more rapidly, due to which the sunlight turns into heat and stays on these clothes. In such a situation, black clothes are hotter. It is more difficult to wear black clothes for a long time during summer.
