Every day different types of attacks keep happening at some place or the other. Like recently, a 16 year old attacker attacked a priest with a knife in a church in Australia and killed him. Before this incident, 6 people had died in a stabbing incident in Sydney also. Many such attacks keep happening in our country also. How is it decided whether an incident is a terrorist attack or not?
If an attack occurs, there are many factors that determine whether it is seen as a terrorist attack or not. The first of which is that if a terrorist attack has taken place, what is its purpose. What are the laws in India regarding terrorism?
From time to time, rules or laws have been made by the Government of India against terrorism. Under this, the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act was brought in the year 1987. The purpose of which was to deal with terrorism as well as organized crime. After this law, laws like TADA and POTA were also brought, which remained in a lot of controversies. Whereas in TADA, special provisions were made regarding definition of terrorism, arrest of suspects, bail, remand etc.
