This is the story of the year 1963 when poet Pradeep wrote a patriotic song ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon’ and then he requested Lata Mangeshkar to sing this song. He wanted Lata to sing this song in front of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on the occasion of Republic Day.

At first Lata flatly refused to sing it because she had very little time for rehearsal. But due to the insistence of poet Pradeep, Lata agreed. Let us tell you that the first presentation of this song was in Delhi in 1963. Republic Day It took place at the ceremony. As soon as Lata reached the stadium to attend the ceremony, she became very nervous after seeing all the people present there. Many big personalities like Shankar-Jaikishan, Madan Mohan, Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar were present in this ceremony.

Lata has also mentioned this in her biography. She told that ‘When I came back from the stage after singing, Mehboob Khan Sahab came to me looking for me. He told me that Nehru ji has called you. Then when I went to meet Nehru ji, his daughter Indira Gandhi was also present there.

Lata further writes that ‘Pandit ji came to me and told me that daughter, you made me cry today. I am going home and I want you to come home with us and have tea at my house. Then when we reached his house, I sat quietly in a corner. Then Indira ji came and she told me that I want to introduce you to two special people, who are your big fans. Then she brought her two sons Rajiv and Sanjay. Even today, when this song is played, we get goosebumps.
