There is a lot of excitement during elections in India. From the moment the election date is announced, every party starts preparing for it. While the ruling party is under pressure to save its power, the opposition gets busy in starting their rule. The election process in India has seen many changes since independence.
Whereas earlier elections were conducted on ballot paper, now it is conducted through EVMs. In ballot paper, support for the party was given on a piece of paper and it was put in the box. But many times fraud took place in this process. Earlier, fake voting was done in ballot papers and they were put in the box. In such a situation, EVM was introduced. But do you know what is done with these machines once the elections are over?
Rules are very important
EVM machines were first used in India in the nineties. About two thousand votes can be registered in one machine. But according to the Election Commission, only fourteen hundred votes can be cast in one machine. After voting, these machines are kept in the strong room. These are kept under tight security. Where these are kept, no electronic machines are kept, not even bulbs are installed.
What happens to the machines after counting?
Once the counting is done, these machines are kept in the strong room for 45 days. If any party wants to get the counting done again, they have only 45 days time. Once these 45 days pass, these machines are kept in the storage room. Even before it is kept in the storage room, a representative of all the parties is present there. After this everyone is made to sign. When elections are held again, these machines are taken out again.
