Topping the list, the French passport is considered to be the strongest passport in the world. With this, French citizens can now travel to 194 countries without a visa. Apart from France, there are also Japan, Germany, Italy, Spain and Singapore. While the Indian passport was ranked 84 in 2023, it has now fallen down to 85 in 2024. However, one good thing in this is that where Indian citizens could go to only 60 countries without visa, now they can go to 62 countries.

The passports of Denmark and Japan were in the powerful list for the longest time in the whole world. From 2006 to 2009, Denmark’s passport was the most powerful. Whereas in 2010, UK was at number one. Then in 2011 and 2012 Denmark was at number one. Apart from this, Japan’s passport was the most powerful from 2018 to 2023. Finland was at the top in 2013 and 2014. After this, Germany’s name was at the top from 2015 to 2017.

Neighboring country Pakistan is at its last year’s rank of 106. Whereas Bangladesh has fallen from 101 to 102 rank. Apart from this, Maldives is at 58th rank, due to which citizens of Maldives can visit a total of 96 countries without visa. At the same time, a good jump is being seen in the rank of China’s passport. Where last year it was at number 66, now it has come at number 64. Henley Passport Index is based on the last 19 years’ data given by the International Air Transport Association on passports of 199 different countries and about 227 travel destinations around the world. 

How is it decided? Ranking in Passport Index?

Data from Henley Passport Index shows that there has been a significant change in mobility around the world. According to the information, in the year 2006, people could travel visa free to 58 countries on an average. This figure has almost doubled this year to 111 countries. It is written on the website of Henley Passport Index that they have data of last 19 years of passports of different countries. According to the website, the Henley Passport Index is the only index of its kind based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Authority.
