Duleep Trophy 2023, Abid Mushtaq: Jammu and Kashmir’s left-arm spin all-rounder Abid Mushtaq has been included in the North Zone team for Duleep Trophy 2023. When Abid was inducted by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as their net bowler, his only wish was to meet his role model Ravindra Jadeja, but by the time Jadeja joined the team, Abid had left the team. Due to this, he could not get a chance to meet Jadeja. Ambati Rayudu definitely assured Abid that he is in the eyes of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the CSK team.
Now Abid Mushtaq told in his statement to Indian Express that Ravindra Jadeja is my idol. I have tried to match my game to his. The way he does in batting, bowling and fielding. I had to leave the day Jadeja bhai came. Due to this I could not get a chance to interact with him more. But Dhoni bhai, I did bowl a lot in the nets. I got a good response from them. I used to talk more with Rayudu Bhai. He was our scout when I went to Chennai for trials. The day I was going back from the camp in Chennai, Rayudu Bhai advised me to continue working hard.
In his statement, Abid further said that better performance in Duleep Trophy can give me a chance to play in IPL. I am consistently doing better with the red ball. I have gone to the last 3 IPL auctions but no one has shown interest in taking me in their team, but my stint with Chennai and talks with Rayudu bhai along with Mahi bhai have given me new confidence.
I don’t want to compromise my ball flight
Abid grew up playing on mat wickets in his early days. He does not want to make any compromise with his spin bowling. Abid said about this that consistency is very important in red ball cricket. You have to keep bowling at one place continuously. You have to give flight to the ball. Due to T20 cricket, left arm spinners are focusing more on saving runs. I don’t want to play safe. You have to give flight to the ball to get wickets.
