When was this picture of Gandhiji taken
This picture of Gandhiji printed on the notes of free India round. That is, when India was not independent. This picture of Mahatma Gandhi was taken by an unknown photographer in April 1946 when Mahatma Gandhi went to meet British politician Lord Frederick William Pethick-Lawrence. Lord Frederick was posted as Secretary of India and Burma. This picture was taken at the then Viceroy’s house. Today you know this house by the name of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Notes with this picture were issued in 1996
RBI issued Rs 10 note with this picture of Mahatma Gandhi in June 1996. Rs 100 and Rs 100 notes were issued. These are called Gandhi Series Banknotes. A mirror image of Bapu’s original photo has been printed on these notes. Whereas, In March 1997, 50 rupees and in October 1997, Gandhi series notes of 500 rupees were issued. Similarly, Rs 1000 notes were issued in November 2000, Rs 20 in August 2001 and Rs 5 in November 2001. The new 500 and 2000 notes are also of the Gandhi series.
