Why are people not able to disconnect calls during digital arrest, what happens to them?

A retired bank employee in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh has been defrauded of Rs 1.73 crore. The fraudsters kept the bank employee under digital arrest for about 4 days. Now the question arises that how do people get digitally arrested and why they are not able to disconnect the calls of the fraudsters. Let us tell you the reason behind this in this article.

What is digital arrest

First understand what digital arrest is. Actually, this is a new kind of fraud, in which the victim is contacted through video call and he is threatened or lured and asked to sit in front of the camera for hours or days. A simple person falls for such things and gets digitally arrested. During this, the fraudsters extract many types of personal information from the person and through this, empty their bank account.

Why can’t they disconnect the phone?

Now the question arises that when the fraudsters are cheating the victim, why does the person not disconnect their phone? Apart from this, the question also arises that how can a person remain digitally arrested for many days. Actually, the trap of the fraudsters is such that the person gets scared. Understand it like this that when the fraudster calls a person, he tells that person that I am calling from such and such police station or income tax department and a fraud is going on in your name.

After this, the fraudster tells them that we are video calling you and you will sit in front of our officers until our team comes and interrogates you. The thugs threaten the victim that if you disconnect the call, it will be considered a violation of the law and you will be arrested for this.

Everything seems true

The biggest thing is that during the video call, the person is shown as if he has really received a call from a police station. Apart from this, the person feels that if he has not done anything and an officer is just asking him to stay in front of the camera, then what is the problem. Apart from this, some people do not move away from the camera due to fear of the police. This is the reason why people become victims of digital arrest. Recently, many such cases have come to light in India. Especially educated people in big cities have become victims of this and the thugs digitally arrested people and blew away lakhs of rupees from their accounts.
