Talking to News18, Instagram user and content creator Abhishek Singh (@tjabhishek) said that when he went to Nainital for the first time, he saw this flag at many places. When he saw this flag (Tibetan prayer flags meaning) on ​​people’s bikes, he felt like putting it on his motorcycle too. After that he came to know what it means… since then he keeps this flag tied on his bike as a protective thread and auspicious sign.

These flags are of 5 colours
According to the report of Tibet Nun Project website, these are Tibetan prayer flags. People in Tibet consider it a sacred flag. It comes in a set of 5 flags, which are of 5 different colors. Blue, white, red, green and yellow flags are in order from left to right. All these colors have different meanings-

Blue Sky
white- air
Red- Fire
Green- Water
Yellow- Earth

Many people put them separately, but this should not be done. These flags should be put together, because they represent the 5 elements of nature. According to the Spiritual Travels website, these flags are put to show the feeling of peace and compassion. They are associated with the beliefs of Tibetan Buddhism and have an important role in religion. They are called Dar-Cho in Tibetan culture. Dar means increasing life, wealth, property and health, while Cho means all sentient beings. When these flags fly in the air, it is believed that due to fluttering in the air, their energy travels far and wide and brings welfare to humanity.

What is written on the flags?
Buddhist mantras are written on these flags, which are chanted. It is believed that the flags fly in the wind and the mantras flow in the atmosphere. These mantras are specially written on these flags – ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’ (Om Mani Padme Hum) which means ‘Gem in the Lotus’ (Om Mani Padme Hum meaning). It is believed that by chanting this mantra in meditation posture, a person removes the feelings of ego, jealousy, pride, greed, and hatred from within himself and becomes pure like the gem in the lotus. These flags are of two types, Lung-Ta and Darchog. These flags are put in homes, temples and on bikes with respect and reverence.
